October 7, 2002
The meeting was called to order at 6:03 P.M. Members present
were Cyndie Lee, Lance and Kristi Lind, Ken Harris, Gary
Segers, John Hecht, Deb Christian, and Ralph Jones.
Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as amended.
Treasurer John Hecht reported that BBS had a current balance
of $2,817. The report was accepted, and the board approved
reimbursement to Gary Segers for the cost of the new BBS
banner. A number of upcoming costs were considered in development
of a budget for the annual meeting.
The board adopted a $250 foodstuff budget for the October
19 annual meeting. The board adopted a $400 budget for entertainment.
Raffle items were provided, including a couple of the new
hats BBS was offering for sale. The board authorized Deb
to purchase thirty hats for sale as a fund-raiser. Lance
will provide ballots listing the three known board candidates
with additions for two write-ins. Other basic arrangements
(volunteers, set-up, etc.) were made.
On Ralph Jones' motion, the board agreed to pay Don Cunningham
to record the Divas at the annual meeting. Without further
commitment, this was adopted simply "to get it in the
can".
The meeting is open to members only. Members can join or
re-new at the door. Members can stay for the James Armstrong
show, but others must pay the cover.
The Jam will be the next-day following, and Brother Bob
will be in charge.
A motion for support of the Blues Foundation's "Year
of the Blues" effort was tabled for the November meeting.
Gary will check on the Foundation's membership request (a
number or a list of names?). John suggested the need for
a board retreat in December, after the new board is elected
and organized. There was a lengthy discussion regarding
the difficulty of getting cards out to the members, and
a number of options were presented. Ralph, Gary, and Deb
will work things out.
Deb presented an idea for a Ladies Blues Club, which she
will work on. She reported gaining two new members at the
Ha' Penny Bridge/Fat John Harp Fest.
The board agreed to give the Blues Bouquet corporate-level
advertising in future newsletters in thanks for what they
do for us.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 P.M.
