President Ralph Jones called the meeting to order at 6:00
P.M. Other board members present were Chuck Bommarito, Lance
Lind, Cyndie Lee, J 0 Fryberger, and John Hecht. BBS members
Mike Pinney, and Alexei and Jake Jacobson were also in attendance.
The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as read.
John Hecht did not have a printed treasurer's report, but
he made an oral presentation accepted by the board.
The board discussed the possibility of moving the summer
picnic to June 20, but it was not favored because of potential
conflicts with Father's Day and the Weiser Fiddle Festival.
The following weekend has been reserved by City Parks and
Recreation for the possibility of a balloon festival (remnant
of the cancelled River Festival). Lance pointed out that
the picnic and balloon festival, held in different parks
and at different times, were not a conflict. John will make
a proposal to Parks and Recreation for the following weekend
(the 27th?). There is a possibility the Gene Harris band
shell in Julia Davis Park may be available if regulations
are changed to permit alcoholic beverages in that area.
Four candidates will be running for board positions at
the October 18 annual meeting: Alexei and Jake Jacobson,
Mike Pinney, and Jim Teeter. Ralph will prepare a ballot.
BBS will have its usual raffles, and an artist's proof of
Ray Fuster's picnic tee shirt design will be auctioned.
Gary has finally printed membership cards, including generic
versions that can be issued at the annual meeting, and the
board approved to reimburse him for half the cost of a printer
cartridge.
The board voted to continue its sponsorship of the monthly
jam sessions at the Blues Bouquet. A board retreat will
be scheduled after elections sometime in November. Alexei
Jacobson spoke for the need to reach out to youth interest
in the blues. Ralph mentioned that the Gene Harris Jazz
Festival will be sponsoring a mini-club night to raise scholarship
funds on November 12. While BBS is not actively involved,
it does support the effort and urges member attendance.
The next edition of the newsletter will be ready for labeling
and postage on Friday, October 10.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:03 P.M.
October 18, 2003 Annual Membership Meeting
Alexei Jacobson, Mike Pinney, and Jim Teeter were elected
by the members in attendance to three-year terms on the
board of directors. The annual meeting will be further discussed
when the board meets in November.
