September 9, 2002
The meeting was called to order at 6:05 P.M. Members present
were Jo Fryberger, Cyndie Lee, Lance and Kristi Lind, Ken
Harris, Gary Segers, John Hecht, and Ralph Jones. The board
was joined by BBS member Deb Christian.
Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as amended.
John Hecht made his treasurer's report. Revenues from Yellowpine,
Caldwell, Tour d'Fat, and corporate memberships have left
us with over $1,500 in the bank. John said we needed $100
to renew our membership in the Blues Foundation, and the
board voted for renewal.
Deb Christian was introduced to the board. She has been
helping Gary with volunteer recruitment and coordination.
Lance inquired about John's expenses in revising the BBS
logo, and John said it was a donation of his time and money.
The board was reminded that a prior board vote was required
for all non-routine expenditures.
Ken reported that James Armstrong would be the headliner
for the Blues Bouquet's ninth anniversary party to be held
following the BBS membership meeting on October 19. The
board agreed to terms for the Divas and the Hoochie Coochie
men to play the party, and to allow members to stay without
a cover charge for the James Armstrong show. Things will
start at 5:00 P.M. with a pot-luck buffet, and music will
start at 6:00 P.M. We have tickets and will have raffles
throughout the evening. BBS will man a membership table
all night. Details on food assignments and other arrangements
were deferred to the October meeting.
It was determined the terms of Jo Fryberger, Ken Harris,
and Gary Segers were expiring. Jo and Gary will run for
re-election, and Ken will take another term if no other
candidates run.
Volunteers are needed for representation at Hyde Park.
Lance and Kristi will get two tables to the event Saturday
morning.
Starting this month (September) the BBS jam is the third
Sunday of the month. Also, starting in November, the Blues
Bouquet will have non-smoking nights every Wednesday from
8:00 P.M. until 10:00 P.M. As a trial, non-smoking nights
will be run through January. The board agreed to support
the Bouquet on Blues music nights. The possibility of supporting
monthly benefits and special shows was tabled for specific
considerations on a case-by-case basis.
The board voted to acquire a vinyl sign for use at BBS
events.
There was confusion about the host of the September jam
session, with Bob Crist, Cyndie Lee, and Ken Harris being
options. Ken will straighten things out.
Ralph mentioned the web site was running well, but that
Justin could always use more and new material.
John Hecht moved, and it was seconded and approved, that
Deb Christian be appointed to the 13-month seat vacated
by Vanna Kay Donovan and Paul Peterson. A recipient of the
Ashley award for contributions to Boise blues was selected
by the board. John will get the award made prior to October
19.
Lance suggested the Salvation Army might make a good co-sponsor
of the Blues for Recovery event. It was suggested that the
board consider changing the Boise Blues Society to the Treasure
Valley Blues Society. No action was taken, and the meeting
adjourned at 7:35 P.M.
