    Minutes of the Meeting - Boise Blues Society
August 5, 2002

The meeting was called to order at 6:10 P.M. Members present were Jo Fryberger, Cyndie Lee, Lance Lind, Ken Harris, Gary Segers, John Hecht, and Ralph Jones.

Because of Kristi's absence, Lance turned the meeting over to Vice-President Ralph Jones while Lance kept the minutes (except when he was interfering with Ralph's presidency). Because of ghosts in the machine, Lance had no minutes to report. John gave his treasurer's report and said that the net of picnic income and expense left us with less than $100.00 in the bank. Breaking even is good enough when the weather gods chased our headliner away just when the crowd was getting thirsty. Revenues are expected from BBS representation at Caldwell's Blues in the Park, the Tour d'Fat bicycle event, and the Hyde Park street fair. The board accepted John's report.

Cyndie reminded the board that we owe Mel Telford for the use of his drum kit for the last two years of summer picnics. With red faces, the board voted to pay benefactor Mel.

Gary said that having the new canopy helped his representation at the Yellowpine Harmonica Festival. BBS made a few bucks more than we were charged for the booth fee, so all is cool.

No applicants for the vacant board seat, so we will keep looking. We need board candidates! Election is October, and four seats are open.

John reported on a conversation with Ginger Jewell (our contact with Boise Parks & Recreation) and the board adopted the third Sunday of July, the 19th, 2003, as the date for the next summer picnic. John will make reservations.

Ken spoke about The Blues Bouquet's non-smoking nights to begin every Wednesday in October. Ken expressed interest in having BBS subsidize higher priced acts. The board decided to deal with the issue at the next (September) meeting. It was agreed that the monthly BBS jam would be moved from the second Sunday to the third Sunday of the month, beginning in September.

Gary presented the board with a list of future events to clarify BBS involvement, and the board agreed as follows:

  • BBS would be represented at Caldwell on August 10;
  • Volunteers are needed for the Tour de Fat bicycle event August 17;
  • Volunteers are needed for the Hyde Park Street Fair September 13-15, and the stage will not be needed;
  • The annual membership meeting will be at the Blues Bouquet on Saturday, October 19, with music by the Boise Blues Divas and the Hoochie Coochie Men;
  • BBS will coordinate volunteers for the Gene Harris Jazz Festival and be part of the Festival planning team. This will involve a lot of time and a lot of volunteers; and
  • Ralph and Gary have been meeting with the Festival for Recovery folks, and BBS will co-sponsor the May 10, 2003.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:25 P.M.
