June 24, 2002
The meeting was called to order at 6:00 P.M. Board members
in attendance were Lance and Kristi Lind, Ralph Jones, Ken
Harris, Gary Segers, John Hecht, Cyndie Lee, and Jo Fryberger.
Minutes of the June 3 meeting were approved as read. Treasurer
John Hecht presented his report, stating we have $1,210
and that we can save a few bucks by getting the newsletter
out before the July 1 postage rate increase. The board accepted
John's report.
Lance reported that he had received a letter from Vanna
Kay Donovan in which she resigned from the board. Lance
will solicit a replacement in the newsletter.
Moving on to picnic preparations, the board agreed that
attendees with a valid membership card could enter drawings
for a free T-shirt and artist-autographed event poster.
Kristi will call Jackson Food Stores headquarters to remind
them that they agreed to advertise the picnic on their various
reader boards. Gary will organize volunteers to distribute
posters. John Hecht will place an ad to run two weeks in
the Boise Weekly and one to run in the Statesman's Scene
magazine Friday, July 12. Ken said he had completed PSAs
for local radio stations and was finishing a video for television
use. Lance reported the park reservation had been approved
and that Ray would soon place the T-shirt order.
Gary will set-up a BBS booth at the Yellowpine Harmonica
Festival August 2-4. BBS will also man a booth and assist
with the Tour de Fat bicycle event. We are looking into
space for the Hyde Park Street Fair. It was rumored Hyde
Park may be interested in staging some blues acts and might
want to use the BBS stage. Gary will arrange getting Ken
and the organizers together to work on music details. Gary
said he is working to have BBS assist with the Gene Harris
Jazz Festival and we can perhaps stage a blues act for that
event. Ralph will continue as the BBS point in working on
next year's Blues Festival for Recovery. He reported this
year's event was a success, and that there will be a second
one. John has made arrangements with J.P. Hardy for use
of our stage at the Caldwell Blues Festival on August 10.
Ben Montaney will get the stage set up the Friday before.
Gary reported we have over three hundred members.
Ken proposed Wednesday blues nights at the Blues Bouquet
in September, October, and November with a non-smoking period
from 8:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M. He suggested BBS run fundraisers
once per month.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 P.M.
