President Ralph Jones called the meeting to order at 6:07
P.M. Other board members in attendance were John Hecht,
Jo Fryberger, Cyndie Lee, Lance Lind, Deb Christian, Gary
Segers and Chuck Bommarito. Member Jim Klahr was also present.
The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved as
amended. John Hecht presented his treasurer's report, which
was accepted by the board and is attached to the file copy
of these minutes.
John reported that picnic arrangements were made, including
the hiring of a backline at $75 rather than having to deal
with the ifs and whens of a borrowed
kit. The board agreed that poster advertising would need
to be delivered by the third week in June for distribution.
Ray Fuster's artwork will be needed by the second week in
June. John Hecht will have public service announcements (PSAs) prepared within two weeks for media distribution.
The board will run advertising in two issues in the Boise
Weekly and one issue in the Statesman's Scene magazine.
Jackson's food stores will be contacted regarding reader
board advertising support, and the Salvation Army will be
encouraged to help with Jackson's, other outlets, and PSA
support.
Shirts and hats will be available for sale at the picnic.
Jo said that arts and crafts vendors will be allowed to
set up their wares for a $20 fee. Jo will arrange booth
placements.
The board will look into setting up a publicity table at
Alive After Five blues events. A table will also be set
up at the Camp Rainbow blues party with ten percent of sales
going to Camp Rainbow. BBS wants to have a presence at the
Hyde Park street fair and at the Eagle Island Experience.
While Hyde Park is pending, Eagle Island was agreed to.
Gary Segers will represent BBS at the Yellowpine Harmonica
Festival, which conflicts with Eagle Island.
Gary said the website needs content. John said BBS would
be at the Silver Spur's Hazel Williams benefit on May 23
as a non-profit conduit for donations. BBS and St. Luke's
nurses will be benefit sponsors.
The financial situation of the Blues Foundation is uncertain,
and BBS will keep open on the situation. June 15 was set
as the deadline for newsletter submissions, and it was noted
that editor Cyndie Lee would be gone the first week in July.
Ralph said he would circulate demos for selections to be
included in a new CD and that he would establish a date
for a board listening party. It is hoped the CD can be produced
for $400. Gary asked Lance how he was doing with the update
of the bylaws, and Lance kindly replied that he was diligently
working on it.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 P.M.
