April 7, 2003
President Ralph Jones called the meeting to order at 6:05
P.M. Other members in attendance were Jo Fryberger, Cyndie
Lee, Lance and Kristi Lind, Gary Segers, and John Hecht.
Minutes of the March meeting were approved as read. John
Hecht presented his treasurer's report stating BBS had $1,861
in the bank, and that Ben Montaney estimated repairs to
the stage, to be made in conjunction with set-up for the
Race to Robie Creek, would cost approximately $175. John
also reported that he had received BBS' tax exemption letter
from Ada County. John's report was accepted by the board.
Gary Segers noted that he needed to get membership cards
made and mailed. He went on to say that BBS got fairly good
publicity out of its involvement with the Gene Harris Jazz
Festival. Organizers want BBS to participate in the future,
especially with volunteer staffing for club night. Jo Fryberger
suspected club night attendance at the Blues Bouquet may
have been one of the best of all venues; that the music
was blues oriented, and success may provide a springboard
for more such talent.
Kristi reported on her experience at the Bouquet on club
night and suggested the board should invest in a first aid
kit for all future BBS events. The board agreed, and John
Hecht was directed to buy "a good one".
Ralph reported that the Blues Brothers' Rock and Soul Revue
had been booked for the summer picnic, and that they would
be joining the Boise Blues Ladies in a schedule to be arranged
later. Jo said she had vendors organized, and that she was
looking for more. Gary talked about providing information
on the BBS between acts, but the details of that were deferred
for later discussion. Local access television station TVTV
has offered to record the event for $300, but a decision
on board commitment to that was also deferred for a later
meeting.
Regarding other upcoming events, BBS will have a table
for the May Blues Festival for Recovery to be held at the
fairgrounds; John has the Race to Robie Creek arranged;
the Eagle Island Experience will be back at Eagle Island
rather than being moved to Idaho City as previously advised,
and it was noted the date conflicts with the Yellowpine
Harmonica Festival. Considering that a number of board members
had plans to attend the Joseph (Oregon) blues festival,
Ralph said he would get a table setup for the Caldwell Blues
Festival on that conflicted date.
Gary Segers ran on and on and on and on and on and on and
on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and
on and on about Lance being remiss in submitting revised
BBS bylaws for board consideration. Oddly enough, no action
was taken.
BBS donated 20 CDs to the Idaho Department of Correction
for use at its Correctional Officer Appreciation Week activities.
The board approved a $5 tip for Joe Brown's help in taking
care of the board at its Blues Bouquet meetings. Cyndie
Lee was thanked for the great job she did with the last
newsletter, and a mid-June deadline was set for the next
edition's articles.
The meeting was adjourned 6:58 P.M.
