Minutes of Meeting - Boise Blues Society
April 1, 2002

The meeting was called to order at 6:05 p.m. Board members present were Lance Lind, Vanna Kay Donovan, Ralph Jones, Ken Harris, Cyndie Lee, John Hecht, and Gary Segers.

The minutes from the March 4 meeting were accepted and approved as read.

The headliner for the July picnic will be George Boone from New York. He has a four-piece band. He sings and plays a variety of songs and styles. Boise's own Night Train and the Streetwise band will also perform. Brother Bob Crist will be the opening act. Music will start at 1:00 p.m. The park application will be completed before the May 6 meeting. Jo is in charge of acquiring vendors.

The March jam was a disappointment. Only five people participated. John Jackson did not call anyone. The jam was to last until 8:45 p.m., but barely made it to 7:00 p.m. We need to promote giveaways. Ken said the door prize for April is a pass for two people to the Blues Bouquet for May. Ken will have Barney do a Blues Society jam poster. Gary will work with Ralph and Cyndie to develop an email message to send to members reminding them of the monthly jam sessions. We will discuss at the May meeting whether to continue the monthly jam.

John is chairman for the BBS participation for the Race to Robie Creek event on April 20. So far everything is on schedule.

Gary is chairman for the BBS participation in Earth Day on April 20 at Julia Davis Park. Cyndie will contact Rocci Johnson to get more information regarding times. Gary will have a table set up for membership signup.

The Tattoo Expo is April 5, 6, and 7 at the Airport Holiday Inn. Gary will call Bob Crist for details. BBS may have a table set up for membership signup.

Ralph motioned that BBS pay for postage and mailing labels to mail the benefit flyer for Kathy Miller. Ken second the motion. Motion was passed. BBS will collect donations to help Kathy with her medical bills.

John presented the treasure's report. Ralph moved that the report be accepted as read. Gary seconded. Motion carried. The IRS has acknowledged BBS' non-profit status.

John moved that BBS pay Justin Beller (webmaster) a bonus for all the hard he has gladly donated to BBS. Gary seconded. Motion carried.

Lance asked John to have the BBS logo recorded with the Secretary of State as a Service Mark so no one can use the logo without permission.

There will be a Boise Blues Festival for Recovery sponsored by BBS, St. Al's, City of Boise's Demand Treatment Initiative, Ada county Health & Welfare, State Region IV Health & Welfare and others to build a community detox and substance abuse treatment center. The event will be Saturday, May 4 2:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. at the Western Idaho Fairgrounds. Tickets are sold through Select-a-Seat. Performers are Charlie Musselwhite, Janiva Magness, Guitar Shorty, Smokey Wilson, Little Charlie & The Nightcats, Alvin Youngblood, and Night Train.

Meeting was adjourned at 7:08 p.m.

Minutes prepared by Vanna Kay Donovan for Kristi Lind.
