February 18, 2002
The meeting was called to order at 6:04 P.M. Board members
present were Jo Fryberger, Cyndie Lee, Vanna Kay Donovan,
Lance & Kristi Lind, Ken Harris, Gary Segers, and John
Hecht. Our webmaster, Justin Beller, was also in attendance.
Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as read. John
Hecht made a verbal treasurer's report, which was accepted
by the board.
Justin Beller provided information and suggestions on the
BBS website. He is working on links to other websites, and
the board suggested links to the Bronze, Brews and Blue
festival site, the Cascade Blues Society and other links
based on Gary Segers information. John Nehmeth would like
to be linked to the BBS site. The board discussed other
website content issues, and Ralph and Cyndie are working
on a calendar of area events and venues for the webpage.
Justin advised us on an alternative to the current website
host that would save BBS money. The board adopted Justin's
suggestion and authorized payment of $115.10 for a one-year
contract beginning March 1. Since the package includes e-mail,
Gary Segers agreed to monitor and respond to traffic.
Under Old Business, it was reported that the Jimmy Lloyd
Rae benefit raised $550 for Jimmy's medical expenses. Great
work gang, we did it again!
Discussion turned to advertising for the summer picnic.
Based on Susan Green's previous presentation, and past experiences
of the board members, the board decided to take a different
tack this year. Print media, including quality posters located
about town and the valley, will be used instead of diluted
radio advertising. It was suggested a poster design might
also be used for shirt printings. The board approved approaching
member Ray Fuster to gauge his interest in the project.
John Hecht will work on developing PSAs that might be used
for radio and television advertising. It was suggested that
advertising by the Salvation Army could compliment and double
PSA airings.
The board agreed on preliminary talent for the picnic,
specifically Night Train and Streetwise. Ken Harris is working
on headliner options.
"Brother" Bob Crist had approached the board
in hope of getting a BBS mailing list to promote his new
CDs. In discussion, the board was reminded that last time
a mailing list was provided, the vendor used it for more
than advertised, and that the board had agreed not to provide
such membership information. Instead, it was agreed Bob
could provide stamped cards or flyers and that the board
would address and mail them. Bob will need to provide 230
mailers. It was suggested that Bob's CD information should
be put on the website.
The Race to Robie Creek is coming up, and John Hecht will
be checking into the details of that operation (BBS has
been providing a stage and brokering talent for the post-race
party).
The meeting was adjourned at 7:40 P.M.
