February 4, 2002
The meeting was called to order at 6:10 P.M. Board members
in attendance were Lance and Kristi Lind, Ralph Jones, Ken
Harris, John Hecht, Cyndie Lee, and Jo Fryberger. BBS member
Susan Green was also in attendance. Minutes of the January
21 meeting were approved as read. Treasurer John Hecht presented
his report, which the board accepted.
Regarding the board vacancy created by Paul Peterson's
resignation, Lance Lind read Vanna Kay Donovan's e-mail
of interest and application. As provided by BBS bylaws,
the board voted 6-1 to appoint Vanna Kay to fill the remaining
two years of Paul's elected term.
It was reported that newsletter editor Peggy Beier needed
board help to ensure that articles were submitted on deadline.
Lance said he would take the point. Jo and Cyndie will submit
bios (as new board members), and Ralph will do a review
of the late Louisiana Red's CD recorded at the Blues Bouquet.
Dan Hibben will recap Night Train's mission to Memphis representing
BBS in the International Blues Competition.
Susan Green made a presentation on radio advertising, with
our specific interest on the annual summer picnic. The board
received good information to be digested and discussed at
the next meeting. It was also suggested that good-quality
posters might be used to promote the event.
Ken reported that he had the Jimmy Lloyd Rea benefit of
February 17 in hand. A poster will be out this week, and
PSAs (Public Service Announcements) have been released.
Ralph had not yet prepared his post cards to members (to
be sent to members without e-mail), but he assured the board
they would be mailed next week. John Hecht was prepared
and handed labels to Ralph. John said Gary would e-mail
the benefit announcement to "cyber-members" the
week before the event. Cost was established as a $5.00 donation
at the door. BBS will hawk memberships, CDs and shirts (proceeds
to BBS), and it was assumed Gary would assemble his cadre
of volunteers (Thank you, Volunteers!).
The board's next meeting was scheduled for Monday, February
18. The major topic will be preparations for the summer
picnic. Board members were asked to be prepared to decide
on advertising options, band selections, and to present
their ideas for a successful 11th annual picnic. John will
provide historical information as a guideline. Lance said
he had the Boise Parks and Recreation reservation packet,
and that insurance was a recurring requirement.
Board members were encouraged to attend the "Night
Train to Memphis"/Paul Peterson CD release party at
Tom Grainey's on Tuesday, the 5th.
John Jackson will be unavailable, and "Brother"
Bob Crist will organize the monthly BBS jam on February
10.
The meeting adjourned at 7:05 P.M.
