Minutes of the Meeting - Boise Blues Society
January 6, 2003

Vice-president Gary Segers called the meeting to order at 6:05 P.M. Other members present were Cyndie Lee, Lance and Kristi Lind, John Hecht, Deb Christian, and Chuck Bommarito. The minutes of the December meeting were approved as read.

Treasurer John Hecht reported BBS had $2,685 to begin the new year, with website and postal box fees due in January. He had no printed report.

John reported that the January 19 jam would be followed by the Brother Bob/Richard Soliz trio as a benefit for the BBS Memphis competition travel fund. BBS will set up shop.

Regarding the Blues Foundation's request for benefits supporting 2003 as the year of the blues, Gary said he had learned the Foundation had lost corporate sponsorships and needed basic support. John suggested, and the board agreed, that we send them 100 of our "Another Round" CQ to be used as the Foundation sees fit.

John also reported we need to announce availability of the BBS stage in the newsletter, something omitted from the January issue, and that Peggy Beier had resigned as newsletter editor. After discussion, it was decided Ralph Jones would be interim editor, but that a publisher would also be needed for the next edition.

Kristi suggested the Center for Health Touch as an alternative meeting place in February, and the board agreed to meet there.

Deb said we needed someone to respond to e-mail correspondence on our website. Web contacts will be forwarded to Ralph until further notice.

BBS concerns for a blues-in-the-schools program were discussed, and the issue was tabled for the time being.

Gary presented his "official" tabulation of the BBS plan developed at the December board retreat. The first thing up is BBS help with the Gene Harris Jazz Festival, to which we are firmly committed. Other events on the calendar were discussed and lead organizers were assigned (details attached to the printed minutes). It was noted the Blues Bouquet/St. Chapelle June festival might be canceled; BBS would no longer sponsor no-smoking nights at the Bouquet; and there was no interest in producing a TVTV blues event. The board will discuss production of a new CD at the February meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:42 P.M.
