2006 Compilation CD "Behind the Mic"

CD Compilation Band Info

Red & Gray - Tom McMeekan relates the 'story behind the song' for "Gut Shot Cat.". He said

he had the title a couple of years before actually writing the song.  He was watching some

show on TV and a hillbilly type character said of someone "he was running faster than a

gut shot cat".  Sounded like a song.  "We recorded at Cunningham Audio Production as part

of our 'No More Yesterdays' album.  We recorded basic live tracks and then experimented

with neat stuff like harmony slide guitars by myself & LeAnne.  I even got to play keyboards."

Rainmakers - The first of the two songs I submitted - Playin' with Fire - was inspired by my friend

Wade's chord structure and another "friend's" refusal to see me as his primary love interest. I like to

call it a song about setting boundaries. The second song - How Can You Do This To Me - was

something I wrote for a guy friend to sing after he told me a sad story (the one in the song)

about how his girlfriend dumped him. It didn't sound enough like Neil Diamond for him to

sing so I decided to just perform it myself.

Strato' loungers - In the Fall of 2004, I (Paul Peterson) had the privilege of recording

(the 2nd lyric I wrote back in '98, 213 songs ago) with the "Cream of the Crop" of

local talent including The Ivory King-Ken Harris; The Bass Player's Bass Player -

Bill Liles; God's Own Drummer - Lawson Hill; Blues Guitar Ninja - Mike Trail;

and Boise's Own Sax Symbol - Kent Persons.  This is a "one take wonder" created

and arranged in studio.  I owe all these guys a debt of gratitude for this "timeless tune."

Dr. Mambo & Those Guys - Here's the lowdown on my songs:  First Night Out was

written about the first night I went out on the town after moving to Idaho from Iowa.

(Town referred to is Twin Falls).  All things referred to in the song are true, tounge-in-cheek

and actually happened.  Spoken part is almost verbatim.  It was an interesting eye-opening

introduction to a new environment.

Bud Gudmundson - "Cheese and Crackers celebrates the kitchen as the culinary

and romantic focal point of the home.  It's also a cheap place to take your date."

Steve Flick - Awaiting artist info

The Heard - The Heard on a Blues compilation?  It seemed a bit different at first,

but why not?  The blues are part of the foundation of the music that the four of us

write.  So why not a blue-jazz-grass arrangement of a song written in the traditional

blues progression?  I Saw You was inspired by the column in the Boise Weekly

classified, based on Daniel's fleeting vision of potential romance.  It was

arranged by The Heard and in included on their second CD, BLISS.

Todd Sorensen & The Real Deal - Awaiting artist info

On Da Fly - I (Ken Harris) was in Chelsea, Massachusetts visiting a local fish market

and noticed "Skate wings" for sale.  The Skate is an ocean fish and there are many

varieties.  I have never eaten a Skate wing but I was going for a "swimming" sound.

This song was recorded live at the Blues Bouquet by Don Cunningham in 1982.
